The International Ocean Carbon Coordination Project (IOCCP)

Ocean Colour

The IOCCP works closely with the International Ocean-Colour Coordinating Group (IOCCG) to facilitate coordination between satellite ocean colour data and the studies of the ocean carbon cycle.

The IOCCP and IOCCG are currently working together on a European Space Agency project called "GlobColour", which is a new program to develop a 10-year global ocean colour data set by merging together information from four satellite sensors: SeaWiFS, MODIS/AQUA, MERIS and Parasol/POLDER. The aim of the GLOBCOLOUR project is to develop and demonstrate an Earth Observation-based service supporting global ocean carbon-cycle research. The project will provide scientists with a long time-series of consistently calibrated global ocean colour information, according to requirements specified by the global ocean colour user community.

The IOCCP has been asked to work with the International Ocean-Colour Coordination Group to link the ocean carbon user community to this project to provide information about requirements and feedback about product development.
